POLLSPEAK

Pollspeak is a watchdog organization dedicated to keeping college sports polls (and computer-rankings) honest, or at least questioning those that seem to be flawed, uneducated or have an unreasonable bias.  Why?  Because polls affect teams' TV exposure, finances, recruiting and national championship hopes.

Voters and pollsters must be held accountable.

Pollspeak is taking a hiatus from writing weekly columns on NCAA basketball.  Pollstalker will still be updated each week with the latest AP ballots, and fan votes will still be counted and displayed for historical reference.  We will also publish a basic analysis of the Pollstalker data and fan votes at the end of the season.  Rest assured that the most extreme AP voters for the season will be tracked and reported to the AP.

You can discuss Good and Bad Voters of the Week on our basketball FORUM.  Pollspeak with continue to monitor interest in both basketball voting and forums.  If interest warrants it, coverage will resume.  If not, there is always baseball season, football season, next basketball season, etc.

Due to technical difficulties, Pollspeak will not be naming its own Bad Voters of the Week for Week 15.  However, we will list all of the peoples picks for this week:

Men's Basketball

Michael MurphyPeople's Pick:  Bad Voter of Week 15 -- Michael Murphy, Houston Chronicle (posted 2/16/08)

Name Good Votes Bad Votes Net Bad Votes
Michael Murphy  33  33

Most likely chosen because he was the only voter not to rank Connecticut.  See his week 15 ballot for full details.

Nick JeziernyPeople's Pick: Good Voter of Week 15 -- Nick Jezierny, The Idaho Statesman (posted 2/16/08)

Name Good Votes Bad Votes Net Good Votes
Nick Jezierny  46  30  16

Jezierny actually finished third in number of bad votes, but he also voted Xavier highest on his ballot, which earned him more than enough good votes to overcome the bad.

Women's Basketball

Patricia Babcock McGrawPeople's Pick:  Bad Voter of Week 15 -- Patricia Babcock McGraw, The Daily Herald  (posted 2/16/08)

Patricia Babcock McGraw  107  107

Old Dominion fans seem to have stepped up in a big way.  Otherwise, McGraw's week 15 ballot seems unoffensive.
